News: Rev Canon Dr. Medhat Sabry resigned in December 2020 to take a new assignment in Madrid at St. George's Anglican Church. St. John's is in the early stages of a search for a new chaplain.
The Rev Canon Dr. Medhat Sabry
Rev. Sabry was raised in an Anglican family and attended Jesus Light of the World church in Old Cairo since childhood. He actively participated in various ministries there throughout his youth, becoming a Sunday school teacher and youth leader at the church a few months after he had a conversion experience in September, 1973. I felt that unmistakably God was calling me to full-time ministry in the Episcopal Church in Egypt. Rev. Sabry's personal experience has included working in different jobs for five years during his university studies. This included work for two years as a salesman at a chemical factory.
He was the priest of the church of Jesus Light of the World, Old Cairo, Egypt. He started in February 2010. Rev. Sabry has been serving on the Diocesan Executive and Finance boards for more than 15 years and is also a member of other sub-committees on planning, strategic thinking and budgeting. On the Provincial level, Rev. Sabry has just finished his second term as a member of the Central and Standing Committees of the Province. Rev. Sabry has been teaching a number of Old Testament courses at three theological seminaries including the Anglican theological seminary (AST, Alexandria School of Theology) and Hope International University, Middle East branch. As an outreach he has taught ALPHA courses in the three churches he serves.
